Can a Chiropractor Help Without Cracking Your Neck?

October 27, 2026

You may be wondering how Blair Chiropractic differs from the traditional chiropractic adjustment. Maybe you’re hesitant about chiropractic care because you’re concerned about the twisting, popping, or cracking often associated with spinal adjustments. Or maybe you’ve tried traditional chiropractic care before but didn’t get the results you’d hoped for.

The Blair technique does not involve twisting or cracking. Instead, it takes a gentle, targeted approach, evaluating and adjusting the upper cervical spine where the head connects to the neck. Understanding how this technique differs from a traditional adjustment can help you decide whether it’s an approach you’d like to explore.

Blair chiropractic focuses on the area of the spine directly beneath the skull. This region protects the lower brainstem and upper spinal cord, and is both highly mobile and more vulnerable to trauma or stress. A misalignment in this area can cause postural problems, migraines, dizziness, vertigo, and misalignment in the rest of the spine.

Before performing a Blair adjustment, your doctor will use standardized diagnostic tools to help determine the alignment of your spine, pinpointing the specific areas that are causing problems. These tools include Blair x-rays and physical, postural, and neurological exams. Muscle strength testing helps to rule out or pinpoint nerve compression. Evaluating the symmetry of your legs helps the doctor evaluate upper cervical alignment, since misalignment causes one side of the lower back and pelvis to pull upward and results in an imbalance of gait and posture. Your doctor will evaluate overall balance, looking for uneven shoulders, a tilted head, or shifted pelvis. She will also check for localized swelling and tenderness near the base of the skull.

Because every patient is different, your doctor will use an individualized approach rather than applying the same adjustment to everyone, whether that is a Blair adjustment, an adjustment of the whole spine, extremity adjustments such as the hip, knee, or shoulder, or a combination of all of them. The goal is to make precise adjustments based on the findings of your examination.

Many of our patients tell us that they chose us because they didn’t want their neck “cracked”. Others say they had given up on chiropractic until they were encouraged to try us and found that finally, there was an approach that worked for them.

If you’ve been hesitant to try chiropractic care or are looking for a different approach, Blair Chiropractic could be your answer. Every patient is unique, and the first step is understanding your individual needs and determining whether this approach is right for you.
